Superfoods for New Moms

A healthy diet during pregnancy and post-delivery is essential because initially your body needs energy to  nourish the baby and post delivery to help to recover from pregnancy, labour and birth. For breastfeeding mothers a balanced and healthy diet is important  to ensure that your baby gets all the important nutrients required for proper growth and development. To make sure you and your baby get all the nutrients here are some superfoods that must be included in your diet.

Spinach

Spinach contains the foremost essential nutrients that new moms need. They are folic acid that helps to produce new blood cells and manganese that are useful in the development of bone, cartilage, and collagen which are further helpful for c-section recovery.

For mothers to help shed baby weight, eggs in breakfast is a must. This reduces the intake of other calories as one egg contains 5 or 6 grams of filling protein that will not make you feel hungry.  It also has choline that is essential for building the memory center of a baby’s brain. Breastfeeding moms need to have it because it helps in child’s growth.

Salmon

This fatty fish has high amount of docosahexaenoic acid that helps in the development of the baby’s nervous system. Rich in omega 3 fatty acids, it treats postpartum depression like lack of sleep, mood swings etc. It also contains Vitamin B12 that is good for skin.

Almonds

They are good carrier of iron and protein and boosts energy with curbing hunger. Their Omega 3 fatty acid helps in boosting breast milk production and nourishes the baby’s bones and teeth. They can be used in smoothies and are as a healthy snacking option too.

Milk’s calcium is essential for baby’s bones development and both pre and post delivery as contains protein, vitamin D, and vitamin B that are all essential for health.

High fibre cereal

A bowl of it daily prevents constipation .

Brown Rice

Brown rice will help keep your energy level up and your blood sugar level consistent. Plus, it has more fiber and other essential nutrients than white rice. It will also help increase breast milk supply and quality.
