Baby acne is a skin condition in which tiny red bumps appear on parts of the baby’s body and mostly goes away with time. It is also known as neonatal acne and is visible in the first few months of life. Here is everything you need to know about it
Causes
There is no specific cause that doctors are aware of but may be a result of maternal or infant hormonal changes.
Symptoms
It usually appears as red bumps, pimples, and whiteheads. These may be present on cheeks, upper back, and neck. The baby may also show irritation on wearing rough fabrics. These symptoms may start to show in 2-3 weeks and can last for weeks.
Treatment
It usually disappears on its own after a while but if the acne is stubborn then the doctor may prescribe some topical creams for the treatment.
Make sure that you do everything as per doctor’s instructions as the baby’s skin is very sensitive and may show reaction towards something that is too strong. If the acne doesn’t go away after in few months, then consult a doctor to know if its a symptom of some other skin condition.
