Keeping your baby warm and well fed tops the priority list but baby skin care is equally important. The newborn’s skin is ultra sensitive and very delicate which makes it prone to rashes. However, there’s much you can do to protect your baby from these skin problems. Here is how to give that extra-special skin protection it deserves and protect your baby from developing allergies and rashes.
Natural skin:
A newborn baby is born with wrinkly skin and a protective covering called vernix that naturally peels off during the first week so don’t rub it, or treat it with lotions or creams.
Nappies and diaper:
Change the nappies regularly after every four hours to avoid rashes and if the nappy gets dirty change it immediately. Secondly, wash the diaper area with a mild fragrance-free cleanser or plain lukewarm water and let it dry before putting on a fresh diaper. Also give your tiny tot some ‘nappy-free’ time too.
Soap:
A moisturizing soap might be good for your skin but not for your little one so always use baby special products like soaps, shampoos and creams. We would rather suggest you to avoid using them in early months as the immune system is still developing.
Be gentle:
After the bath, dry the skin using a soft towel or cotton and make sure not to rub too hard as it creates rashes on the skin.
Dress with care:
Dress the baby in loose, soft and comfortable clothes.
Wash:
Use mild detergent to wash baby’s clothes and bedding before they’re used.
Limit bath time:
Too much bathing removes the natural oils that protect baby’s skin so limit the baths to three in a week.
